Raider Golfers Finish 6th at AA State Championships

The Raider golf team completed another successful season with a 6th place finish at the State Championships in Williamsburg on October 12-13, improving on their 7th place finish from last year.  The team had a two-day total of 622 (rounds of 311 each day) against stiff competition from Jamestown, Cave Creek and Western Albemarle, to name a few.  Brantley Kushner (77-74) and Michael Linville (76-77) led the team, with Andrew Brenneman (78-82) and Kevin Cook (82-78) rounding out the top four scorers.  Senior John Youst finished out his high school golf career with a solid 80 on the first day, and junior Matt Tomassone also contributed with rounds of 81-83.  With their second straight trip to the State Championships under their belt and 6 juniors returning next year to finish their senior season, the Raiders have high hopes for another visit to States.  Congratulations boys and thanks to Coach Laycock and Coach Brown for their contributions, as usual!

Raider Golfers Return to State Championships

The Raider Golf team earned a repeat berth in the Virginia state championships today thanks to a runner-up finish at the Region II Regional Tournament at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club in Front Royal, VA.  Andrew Brenneman and John Youst posted 79s and Michael Linville and Kevin Cook posted rounds of 81 to lead the way for the Raiders in extremely windy conditions.  The golf team competes in the state championships in Williamsburg on October 12-13.  Go Raiders!!!

Raider Golfers Win Dulles District Tournament; Kushner Takes Individual Honors

The Raider Golf team won the Dulles District Tournament Wednesday at South Riding, besting their competition by an amazing 18 strokes with 5 of 6 Raider golfers scoring rounds in the 70s.  Brantley Kushner won the individual district title with a round of 1 under par 71, followed very closely by Kevin Cook at 72, John Youst at 76 and Andrew Brenneman and Michael Linville at 78.  The Raiders now have two weeks to prepare for the regional tournament at Shenandoah Golf Club.

Golf Team Finishes 2nd at Marshall Glenn Invitational; Kushner Takes 1st Place Honors

The Raider golfers finished the golf season with a second place finish at the Dr. Marshall Glenn Golf Invitational at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course in West Virginia, falling a mere four strokes out of the first place slot. Brantley Kushner shot a 1-under par 71 to take first place in the individual competition. Other scores were Andrew Brenneman (79), Michael Linville and Kevin Cook (80), Jon Yost (81) and Matt Tomassone (85). The Raiders used the non-district match as a tune-up for this coming week's District Tournament at South Riding on Wednesday, September 23.

Raider Golfers Finish Regular Season with Victory over Broad Run

The County golf team finished off the regular season with a 19-stroke victory over Broad Run at Lansdowne Resort on the Norman Course.  Brantley Kushner and Dan Jackson led the way with 1-over par 37s, followed by a 38 from Andrew Brenneman and a pair of 41s from Michael Linville and Sam Early.  The Raider golfers take their show on the road to West Virginia for the Marshall Glenn Golf Invitational tomorrow.

County Golf Team Finishes 2nd at Friendly Tri-Match

Jon Yost's second consecutive under-par round helped the Raider Golf Team to a second place finish at a friendly tri-match against Loudoun Valley and Briar Woods at Loudoun Country Club on September 15.  Yost posted a scorching 2 under par 32 on the part 34 course.  He was backed up by Andrew Brenneman (34), Brantley Kushner (35) and a pair of 36s from Sam Early and Kevin Cook.  The Raiders return to district play on Wednesday against Broad Run.

Raider Golfers Suffer Only Loss of Season to Freedom

The Raider golf team suffered their first (and only) loss of the regular season, falling by a mere two strokes to Freedom at South Riding on September 10.  Jon Yost shot a 1-under par 35 to lead the way for the Raiders, followed by Kevin Cook (38), Andrew Brenneman (39) and Brantley Kushner (40).  The Raiders's next match is a friendly tri-match with Loudoun Valley and Briar Woods at Loudoun Country Club on September 15.

Raider Golfers Clinch Dulles District Regular Season Title

The LCHS Raider Golf team continued its unbeaten season with an 8-stroke victory over Briar Woods this past Thursday at Raspberry Falls.  The victory helped the Raiders lock up the regular season title and paved the way for a return to the Virginia AA regional tournament at Shanandoah later this fall.

Andrew Brenneman led the way with a sizzling 1-under par round of 35, with Brantley Kushner and Kevin Cook logging 38s and Sam Early posting a 39 to lead the Raiders over the rival Falcons.  Even Coach John Laycock, still on injured reserve, made a surprise appearance to cheer his boys on to victory.  The Raiders take their show on the road against Freedom this Thursday (9/10) at South Riding.

Raider Golfers Set School Record Against Park View

The varsity golf team set a school record of 3 under par in their victory over Park View at Westpark Golf Course Thursday to continue their undefeated season.  The top four scorers combined for a total team score of 137, breaking a long-standing school record, according to Coach John Brown.  Michael Linville led the way with a round of 33 (2 under), followed by Brantley Kushner with 34 (1 under), and Matt Tomassone and Andrew Brenneman each with 35 (even par).   The Raiders are now focused on their Thursday afternoon match with Dulles District rival Briar Woods at Raspberry Falls.

Raiders Top Potomac Falls in Head-to-Head Match

Raider golfers continued their winning ways with a 15-stroke victory over Potomac Falls in their first head-to-head match of the season August 20, 2009.  Brantley Kushner shot a 1-under 35 and was paired with Andrew Brenneman, who shot 38.  Matt Tomassone (38) and Sam Early (39) were also paired together and posted solid scores for the team.
