Baseball Loses to Broad Run in District Championship Game

Thursday, May 27, 2010 - South Riding, VA - Freedom High School

For the second time this season against a top team, with momentum shifting in County's direction, lightning stops the game with County on the short end of the scoreboard as the Raiders fell short 11-6.

A Kris Pratt booming home run just before the halt was the highlight of the evening.

The Raiders ended the season playing their best ball.

Baseball Win Over Top-Seeded Potomac Falls Vaults Team Into District Championship

Tuesday, May 25, 2010 - Sterling, VA - Potomac Falls High School - For the second game in a row, the Raiders played an error free game, taking advantage of timely hits and 3 Panther errors; and combining with a complete game 2 hitter pitched by Junior Taylor Cokeley, to upset the regular season champion and number one seed Potomac Falls 4-1 in Dulles District Tournament Semi-Final action tonight. 
 
Raiders scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning and 2 runs in the 5th inning.  In the 3rd inning, Henry Massey and Matt Cunningham both walked to start the inning.  Taylor Cokeley then singled to load the bases.  Massey scored on a past ball, and Cunningham scored on a fielder's choice.  In the 5th inning, Massey again walked to start the inning.  He reached third by an errant pick off attempt allowing Massey to advance to 3rd.  Matt Cunningham then singled Henry home.  Matt reached 3rd base by two past balls, and scored on another errant throw on a checked swing bunt by Kelly Drews. 
 
Taylor Cokeley had 3 hits, one double and two singles.  Besides Cunningham, the only other hit by the Raiders was a double by Kris Pratt.  
 
The defense was solid behind Cokeley who only gave up two hits to the dangerous hitting Panthers.  Taylor recorded 4 strike outs and got out of jams in the 4th and 7th innings.
 
The Raiders now face #2 seed Broad Run the Dulles District Final to be held Thursday evening at Freedom High School.

Raiders Crush Patriots in District Opener 9-2

Friday, May 21, 2010 - Leesburg, VA - Loudoun County High School - Loudoun County picks up a playoff win at home against Park View.

Fine complete-game pitching by Kris Pratt coupled with timely hitting and an error free game helped the Raiders pick up their first playoff win since 2006.

Eight different Raiders scored as they made the best of their 6 hits including a bases clearing 3-RBI double by Pratt. Others with singles were Matt Cunningham, JJ Levan, Taylor Cokeley (also with a double), Kelley Drews.

The Raiders travel to Potomac Falls to take on the top seed Panthers Tuesday evening at 6:00pm.

Baseball Falls to Broad Run

Tuesday, May 18, 2010 - Ashburn, VA - Broad Run High School - Raiders drop final regular season game 5-2 to Broad Run.

County jumped out ahead in the first taking advantage of 2 walks, a single by Taylor Cokeley followed by an RBI ground-out by Kelly Drews.  The Raiders picked up another run in the third with a long home run blast by Tyler Saleck.  Other hitters were Henry Massey (single), Matt Slack (single), and Kris Pratt (double).

Taylor Cokeley pitched the whole game for the Raiders giving up 8 hits while striking out 4.  The Raiders finish out with a 6-6 Dulles District record and host their first playoff game since 2006 against Park View.

Baseball Loses in Shortened Game

Friday, May 14, 2010 - Leesburg, VA -

Final score - Potomac Falls 3 - Loudoun County 0  (5 innings, lightening shortened)
Kris Pratt tossed a very solid game but Panthers took advantage of 4 hits in 3rd inning leading to 3 runs.  Unfortunately, that's all that was needed at Raiders' Senior Night.  Panther's pitcher Jackson Rogers recorded 9 strikeouts.

Raiders had only 3 hits (Cunningham, Massey, Slack), and limited to 5 baserunners.
District Record at 6-5.  Last regular season game at Broad Run on Tuesday.

Baseball Shuts our Dominion

Tuesday, May 11, 2010 - Leesburg, VA - The Raiders made the most of their 6 hits under a cold and wet sky as Taylor Cokeley tossed a full game 4-hit shutout while recording 10 strikouts including the side to end the game with a County victory 3-0.

LC jumped ahead in the first on singles by Cokeley and Nick Fischer (who threw out another base stealer this game)...Bryan Huber scoring (in pinch running for Cokeley, and stealing another base with his new found wheels) and Tyler Saleck scoring on Fischer's RBI single after reaching safely on an error.

The Raiders picked up another run in the second as Henry Massey singled home Matt Slack who had a lead-off double.

County spread the wealth as 6 different Raiders had hits including Ethan Carlyon recently called up from the JV squad.

The Raiders return to action Friday night in their final home game against Potomac Falls as they will honor seniors Nick Veschi, Kelly Drews, Matt Cunningham, and Austin Campbell.

Varsity Baseball Drops Park View

Tuesday - May 4th - Loudoun County 4  Park View 1
Loudoun County makes the most of 7 hits and scoring 4 runs in this tightly contested Dulles District game.  Taylor Cokely started the scoring by hitting an RBI triple scoring Matt Cunningham in the first inning.  Tyler Saleck follwed with an RBI single his first of 2 singles that evening.  Other hitters included Cunningham, Kris Pratt, Matt Slack, and Henry Massey.
Cokeley pitched a complete game, scattering eight hits and striking out 9.  No errors by the Raiders again.
Third District win in a row.  District record improves to 5-4 and are in a tie for 3rd with Briar Woods.

Raiders Baseball Shuts out Freedom

The Skinny:  A two-run home run shot by Matt Slack and a complete game three-hit shut out by Kris Pratt highlights an error-free Raider victory in South Riding Friday Night.
 
The Raiders took advantage of six hits and four Eagles errors.  Loudoun County scored one run in the first inning on a Kelly Drews single scoring Taylor Cokeley from 3rd base. The score did not change until the fourth inning when Nick Fisher was hit by pitch to advance to first base.  Junior Matt Slack then lifted a hit over the left field fence for his first home run of his high school career.  The Raiders added another run in the 5th inning and another run in the sixth inning with an RBI double by Tyler Saleck and an run scored on an error.
 
Kris Pratt faced only 26 Eagle batters, and limited Freedom to only 6 base runners.  Besides four strikeouts, Pratt was assisted by some sharp defense by all positions, playing error-free ball for the evening.
 
Raiders improve their Dulles District record to 4-4.  Their next game is Tuesday, 5/4 at home against Park View.

Raiders Battle to Win Over Briar Woods

Tuesday, April 27, 2010 - Brambleton, VA - Briar Woods High School

Taylor Cokeley pitches through a shaky 2nd inning, and pitches complete game for victory.  After giving up 5 runs from 5 hits, Taylor settled down and limited Briar Woods to 3 hits the rest of the way.  10 strikeouts, 6 of which come in 6th &  7th innings. 

 
Batting:  Hitting and scoring started in second inning.  Raiders score 3 in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd, and one run in both the 4th and 5th innings.  Totaled 9 hits, 7 hits and the 7 runs credited to starter Lechler. 
             Henry Massey 2 for 4 with 2 singles and 2 RBIs
             Matt Slack - 2 for 4 with 2 singles and 1 RBI
             Nick Veschi - 1 for 4, single 2 Reached on Errors, 1 RBI
             Kris Pratt - 1 for 2, single SAC RBI, scored 2 runs
             Nick Fisher - 1 for 4 with a single
             Kelly Drews - 1 for 4 with a single
             Tyler Saleck - 2 for 4, single, double with an RBI
 
Falcons also committed 6 errors.

Raiders Fall Short In Game Against Broad Run Spartans

Friday, April 23, Leesburg, Virginia - Loudoun County High School - The Raiders scatter seven hits in a losing effort to the Spartans 12-2.

The Raiders first RBI came in the fifth inning on a Matt Cunningham single scoring Henry Massey.

The highlight for the Raiders was when starting pitcher Tyler Saleck hit a solo home run over the 365 feet sign in left center in the bottom of the seventh.  Saleck began the game pitching with Nick Collins entering in relief in the fourth and Austin Campbell coming in the sixth inning.


Kelly Drews went 2-2 with two doubles. The team travels to Briar Woods High School on Tuesday and to Freedom on Friday.

The team drops to 2-4 in the district.
