Lady Raiders Clench a Ticket to the Regional Tournament

After a gut-wrenching, heart-pounding, down to the last second battle, the Lady Raiders defeated the Freedom Eagles (14-13) at George Mason on Wednesday night. The Lady Raiders dug deep and played hard from beginning to end. Lighting up the scoreboard for the Raiders were Seniors Hannah Young with 1 goal and Christine Rihn with 1 goal and 1 assist, Junior Sydney Hewartson with 4 goals and 2 assists, Sophomore Rachel Solis with 7 goals and 4 assists and Freshman Haley Knudsen with 1 goal and 1 assist. The attack was on fire, fighting oppressive checks with fast breaks and scoring drives straight to the goal!

Down on the defensive side, an impressive game was played. Stopping passes and dishing out a straight denial to the goal were Juniors Lesya Chopivsky, Caila Cummings, Jaci Shepherd, and Kasey Fletcher, Sophomore Shannon Rose and Freshman Haley Knudsen. Starring in goal was Sophomore Jessie Joseph who dominated her previous personal best to make an amazing 26 saves! Coach Wilhelm couldn’t ask for a better birthday present than that.

The Raiders are pumped to travel to their first regional appearance of the season on Monday May 24th.

Varsity Softball Falls to Broad Run

The Lady Raiders ended the regular season with a loss to the Broad Run Spartans in Ashburn 7-1.

The Raiders were led at the plate by Kelley Duerbeck who went 2-3 with a double and scored the only Raider run.
The only other Raider hit was an infield single by Renay Aubel.

Kiley Jacobus took the loss for the Raiders who fell to 8-12 (5-7 district).

The Raiders start district play on Friday at Potomac Falls at 7 P.M.

Baseball Loses in Shortened Game

Friday, May 14, 2010 - Leesburg, VA -

Final score - Potomac Falls 3 - Loudoun County 0  (5 innings, lightening shortened)
Kris Pratt tossed a very solid game but Panthers took advantage of 4 hits in 3rd inning leading to 3 runs.  Unfortunately, that's all that was needed at Raiders' Senior Night.  Panther's pitcher Jackson Rogers recorded 9 strikeouts.

Raiders had only 3 hits (Cunningham, Massey, Slack), and limited to 5 baserunners.
District Record at 6-5.  Last regular season game at Broad Run on Tuesday.

VARSITY SOFTBALL WORKS THROUGH ANOTHER PITCHER'S DUEL

On Senior's Night at Loudoun County High School, the Lady Raiders squared off with the Potomac Falls Panthers in a hard-fought pitcher's duel with the Panthers ultimately coming out on top, 2-0.  Kiley Jacobus went the distance in the circle for the Raiders, allowing just 3 hits and striking out 4.  Loudoun County was able to generate only two base hits, a liner to right from Renay Aubel and a bunt single from Katelyn Packard.  Seniors Katie Graff and Melissa Conway were honored in pre-game ceremonies.  Both girls started in the last home game of their high school softball careers. 
 
The Lady Raiders conclude their regular season with an away contest versus the Broad Run Spartans at 6pm on Tuesday evening, May 18th.

Dulles District Track Meet Concludes

The Dulles District Track Meet concluded today with some good individual results despite the team results not being as good as hoped. Meghan Tracy placed in the 100 meters to advance to regionals. Sammy Clark placed in the 400 meters to advance as did Erica Butkiewicz in the 300 Hurdles. Two runners advanced from the 1600 meters as Julie Strange became a double district champion after her win last night in the 3200 she won the 1600 meters tonight. Kathryn Eder took 5th place in the race to also advance.

On the guys side: Dejuan McConnell placed in the 200 meters. Steven Graham advanced in the 400 meters. Tommy Curtin ran a state qualifying time in the 1600 but was only able to place second despite running 4:25.58.

 

These runners will advance to the regional meet along with those who qualified yesterday. The regional meet is at Handley High School in two weeks on May 27th.

Day 1 of Dulles District Track Meet Goes Well

Day 1 is over for the Dullest District Meet and a number of athletes are advancing to the Regional Meet. Anna Sullivan started the day off strong with a 2nd place finish with a jump of 5' 2" which in addition to placing 2nd also earned her an automatic berth at the state meet. The girls throwers did well as Ellen Northrup placed in the shot put and Kelsey Phoebus advanced in the discus.

Also scoring for the girls was the 4x800 team of Julie Strange, Becca Hinch, Kathryn Eder and Emily Seifert. This group placed 4th today. The last girls race of the day also produced two more regional qualifiers and one of our district champions for the day. Julie Strange is the Dulles District 3200 meter champion and Kathryn Eder also placed to advance in the 3200.

The boys team advanced in a few events as well. The 4x800 team of Tommy Curtin, Kyle Frazier, Tanner Tibbits, and Devin Schechter placed 3rd to qualify for the regional meet. Tommy Curtin had another outstanding day as he not only won the 3200, but he also established a new Dulles District record. James Spence placed 6th to also advance to regionals.

The team returns tomorrow to Freedom to complete the district meet.

Varsity Softball Wins Big Over Dominion

The Lady Raiders bounced back in a big way tonight against the Titans of Dominion High School with a mercy rule shortened 10-0 win in 5 innings. 

The Raiders got a solid pitching effort from Allyson Kuhn who allowed just 1 hit while striking out 3 in her 5 innings pitched.  On the offensive side, the Raiders got 4 Rbi's from Renay Aubel as she went 2-2 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored. Kiley Jacobus also went 2-2 while scoring 3 runs and driving in one.  Cortni Reitz scored 2 runs and threw out the only Titan batter to get a hit at second base.  Erin Ertel had a hit, scored a run and drove in one.  Kelley Duerbeck and Katelyn Packard each had a hit and an Rbi for the Raiders. Megan Fadeley also had a hit and scored a run.  Shelby Simmers scored the final run for the Raiders who improve to 8-10 (5-5 district). 

The Raiders host Potomac Falls on Friday at 6 P.M.

Baseball Shuts our Dominion

Tuesday, May 11, 2010 - Leesburg, VA - The Raiders made the most of their 6 hits under a cold and wet sky as Taylor Cokeley tossed a full game 4-hit shutout while recording 10 strikouts including the side to end the game with a County victory 3-0.

LC jumped ahead in the first on singles by Cokeley and Nick Fischer (who threw out another base stealer this game)...Bryan Huber scoring (in pinch running for Cokeley, and stealing another base with his new found wheels) and Tyler Saleck scoring on Fischer's RBI single after reaching safely on an error.

The Raiders picked up another run in the second as Henry Massey singled home Matt Slack who had a lead-off double.

County spread the wealth as 6 different Raiders had hits including Ethan Carlyon recently called up from the JV squad.

The Raiders return to action Friday night in their final home game against Potomac Falls as they will honor seniors Nick Veschi, Kelly Drews, Matt Cunningham, and Austin Campbell.

Track Teams Compete at County Championships

On Friday, both the girls and boys track teams competed at the County Championships and there were numerous highlights. Possibly the biggest highlight was the performance of the 4x100 team comprised of Antonio Rutherford, Adam Yesuf, Dejuan McConnell, and Dionte Fitts. They ran a season PR by about 2 seconds and qualified for the regional meet and placed 2nd in the County. James Spence became the 7th person at LCHS to go under 10:00 for the 3200 as he qualified for Regionals with a 9:58.77.

The girls 4x800 team of Allee White, Emily Seifert, Kathryn Eder, and Devin Bowers placed 3rd to earn medals and Kathryn Eder and Anna Nordseth earned medals by placing 4th and 5th in the 3200. Anna Sullivan also medaled in the high jump.

Lastly, Tommy Curtin ran in the Southern Track Classic in Richmond where he shattered the school record for 3200. At the start of the season the record was 9:37. Tommy broke it for the first time 2 weeks ago when he ran 9:32. At Richmond he ran 9:23.49 to break the old record by almost 14 seconds.

Varsity Softball Falls to Briar Woods Falcons

The Lady Raiders fell to the Briar Woods Falcons on Tuesday evening at home 11-2.

Loudoun County encountered heavy hitting and strong pitching from the Falcons who appearred poised to go deep into playoff competition later this month. Kiley Jacobus went the distance for the Lady Raiders, striking out 4 and adding a double and RBI to the Raiders cause. Renay Aubel added a single and RBI.

The Lady Raiders fall 7 - 10 on the season and 4-5 in District play. Their next game is Tuesday, May 11th when LCHS Raiders will host Dominion HS at 6pm.
